A few simple conversations with your florist ahead of time can make a huge difference in how your gallery looks and how smoothly your wedding day flows. Here are a few things I always recommend couples keep in mind!

Build Your Wedding Flower Timeline Around Getting Ready

One of the biggest tips I can give is to have your florist deliver your personal flowers to wherever you’re getting ready. Not directly to the ceremony venue. Your bouquet, your partner’s boutonnière, bridesmaid bouquets, and any special florals are some of the very first things I photograph when I arrive. They’re part of telling the story of your day, and they’re featured throughout your gallery. If the flowers aren’t there yet, those detail photos either get delayed or skipped altogether because we’re moving on to hair, makeup, getting dressed, and everything else happening that morning. Having your flowers delivered early also gives everyone a little breathing room. There’s no rushing to track down bouquets or wondering if the delivery is running behind while everyone is getting ready.

Ask for a Few Loose Flowers

This is one of those little details that makes such a big difference. When you meet with your florist, ask if they can include a handful of loose blooms and greenery that match your arrangements. They don’t have to be anything elaborate, just a few extra stems. Loose flowers allow your photographer to create more elevated flat lays with your invitation suite. Rings, perfume, vow books, and other meaningful details. Instead of placing everything on a plain surface, those extra blooms help tie your details into the overall design of your wedding day. Making everything feel cohesive from beginning to end.

Think About Where Your Reception Flowers Will Go

Your reception flowers are gorgeous, but it’s worth thinking about placement as much as the design itself. If you’re having a sweetheart table. Ask your florist to avoid creating an arrangement that’s so tall or full that it completely covers your faces while you’re seated. You’ll spend a surprising amount of time there during dinner, speeches, and toasts, and those are moments you’ll probably want photographed. The same goes for ceremony arches or large aisle arrangements. They’re beautiful focal points, but your florist and planner can often position them in a way that frames the two of you instead of blocking important moments from your guests, or your photographer’s view.

Don’t Forget the Small Floral Details

While bouquets usually get all the attention, there are plenty of smaller floral pieces that deserve a place in your wedding flower timeline too. Make sure boutonnieres, corsages, flower crowns, floral hair pieces, and any flowers for pets are delivered with plenty of time before they’re needed. This gives your photographer time to document them before they’re pinned on or carried down the aisle. If you’re planning to preserve your bouquet after the wedding, let your florist know ahead of time. They may have recommendations for sturdy blooms or ways to keep your flowers looking their best throughout the day.

Share Your Timeline With Your Florist and Photographer

Your florist, planner, and photographer all play a role in making your day run smoothly. So keeping everyone on the same page is one of the easiest ways to avoid unnecessary stress. Once your timeline is finalized, make sure your florist knows when details will be photographed. When bouquets need to be ready, and when reception spaces should be fully set up. It helps every vendor work together. And it means you get to spend less time worrying about logistics and more time enjoying your wedding day. At the end of the day, beautiful flowers deserve to be photographed beautifully. A thoughtful wedding flower timeline isn’t about adding more to your to-do list. It’s simply about making sure all the little details you’ve invested in are ready when it matters most!
