Camila and Drew are getting married in Mexico. But they still wanted wedding photos somewhere in Atlanta, and the Swan House was such a good choice. Their Swan House bridal session gave them a completely different look from what they’ll have on their actual wedding day. While still feeling like part of this season of their lives. And I love that they didn’t need a wedding at Swan House to have these photos here.

We got to move around the property and really use the architecture as part of their gallery. The columns and staircases gave us those more editorial portraits. While the gardens, fountains, and pathways gave them room to move around and just be together. It’s one of those locations where you really don’t have to do much to make the photos interesting. The backdrop already brings so much to them!

Why Plan a Swan House Bridal Session?

One of my favorite things about doing bridal portraits on a separate day is simply having more time. You’re not trying to squeeze everything between the ceremony and cocktail hour. And you can be a little more intentional about where you go and what you create. For Camila and Drew. It also meant getting an entire set of Atlanta wedding portraits even though their wedding itself will be in Mexico.

And Swan House works especially well for that because you can get so much variety without needing multiple locations. We went from grand architectural backdrops to the gardens and fountains. Mixing more posed, editorial images with photos that felt relaxed and playful. Looking through their gallery, it almost feels like we went to several locations when everything was created right there.

How to Book a Swan House Bridal Session

Because Swan House is part of the Atlanta History Center and sits on private property. You’ll need a paid photography permit for a private session. For personal photo shoots, the Atlanta History Center currently requires at least two weeks’ notice and allows bookings up to eight weeks in advance. Most permits are issued Monday through Thursday because weddings frequently take place Friday through Sunday. Current personal-session pricing is $650 during January, February, July, August, and December and $750 during March through June and September through November, with permits covering up to two hours.

There are a few important restrictions to know, too. Photography is outdoors only at Swan House, and a regular photo-shoot permit does not include access to the cascading Fountain Side ceremony lawn because that space is reserved for booked wedding ceremonies. You can still photograph above the stairs, on the stairs, and below the ceremony lawn, which leaves plenty of beautiful options, as Camila and Drew’s gallery definitely proves. Since pricing, policies, and availability can change, I always recommend confirming the current details with the Atlanta History Center before planning your session.

Getting Married at Swan House

If this Swan House bridal session has you thinking about an actual wedding here, that’s an option too. Swan House Gardens currently hosts weddings Friday through Sunday, with the Fountain Side, Boxwood Garden, and Column Side offering different options throughout the property. The Fountain Side is reserved for ceremonies, while the Column Side can be used for a ceremony, cocktail hour, or open-air reception. Events at the historic Swan House itself are held outdoors.

For guest count, the venue currently lists capacity for up to 300 people for a wedding ceremony and 200 for a seated reception on the Column Side. One thing I really like from a photography perspective is how much variety is already built into the property. You have the grand architecture, gardens, stairs, fountains, and columns all in one place, so you can create a really varied wedding gallery without spending part of your day driving somewhere else for portraits.
