OMG, you are planning a proposal! I know this is an exciting moment and capturing it on camera can make it even more special! Coordinating with your photographer is super important so that every special detail is documented, I know you guys will look back at these photos and remember such an amazing day in your guy’s lives! In this post, I share how you should go about coordinating your proposal with your photographer! Here’s how to make it all happen smoothly and without giving away the surprise!
Coordinating Your Proposal
#1 Choose the Right Photographer
This first one is SO important! Start by finding a photographer who specializes in proposals or candid moments. Look at their portfolio to make sure their style matches the vibe you are going for. Once you’ve chosen someone, communicate clearly about your ideas and expectations for the big moment. A photographer with experience in surprise proposals can also offer valuable tips to make the proposal seamless! Personally, I have had the honor of capturing many proposals and I always go above and beyond to make the proposal a seamless experience for my clients! I make sure I communicate with them, so we are on the same page, and everything runs smoothly!
#2 Plan Every Detail Together!
Timing and location are EVERYTHING. Discuss the proposal location and the time of day with your photographer! They can give you advise on the best lighting and angles for amazing shots. If you’re planning an outdoor proposal, we may suggest the golden hour (shortly after sunrise or before sunset) for that perfect romantic and beautiful glow. Share all the details about your plan so we know what to expect. Will you be walking on a specific path? Standing by a landmark? Popping the question at a restaurant? The more we know, the better prepared we’ll be to capture the moment without disrupting it!
Coordinating Your Proposal
#3 Be Discrete
If it’s a surprise proposal, discretion is super important! Work with your photographer to come up with a plan to keep them out of sight until the big moment. They might pretend to be a tourist taking photos, blend in with the crowd, or hide before you pop the question! Make sure they know exactly when and where you’ll propose so they’re ready to capture the perfect shot without giving anything away. You can also have a certain signal planned, so your photographer knows that you are about to pop the question!
#4 Have a Backup Plan!
Sometimes, things don’t go exactly as planned, especially if weather or unexpected events intervene! Work with your photographer to come up with a backup plan in case the original plan falls through. They’ll often have great ideas for alternative locations or setups that are just as beautiful. With good communication with your photographer, everything is possible!
Coordinating Your Proposal
#5 Celebrate this Amazing Step in Your Life!
Once the proposal is done and you’ve heard that amazing “YES,” take a moment to celebrate and enjoy the moment together. Then, work with your photographer to capture some post-proposal shots! This is the perfect moment to capture close-ups of the ring, candid moments of joy, or posed photos in the same location. These images will complement the proposal shots and give you a full set of memories that you can look back on and cherish for many years to come!
