Let’s talk about something no one wants to talk about… but every couple should think about: What happens if your wedding photographer suddenly can’t make it? You need to have wedding day backup plans! I know, it’s a terrifying thought. You’ve spent months (or years!) planning, dreaming, pinning inspiration, and imagining how your day will be captured. Your photos are one of the only things that last beyond the cake, the florals, and the dance floor. So yeah, this is a big deal. And I promise you, I’ve got a plan. As a wedding photographer, it’s literally part of my job to expect the unexpected. So, here’s exactly what would happen if something came up and I couldn’t be there, and how your memories would still be in safe, capable hands!

Wedding Day Backup Plans
Step One: It’s in the Contract, Always
Before I ever click the shutter on your big day, I make sure the contract covers all the “what-ifs.” That includes a full contingency plan in the rare event I’m unable to attend your wedding. This clause isn’t there to scare you, it’s there to protect you. It ensures that you’re never left scrambling and that a backup plan is already in motion before anything ever goes wrong!

Step Two: I Have a Trusted Photographer Network
Life happens, illness, emergencies, or the wildly unpredictable. If I can’t make it, you won’t be left on your own. I’ve built a trusted network of talented photographers I’ve personally worked with over the years, people who shoot in a similar style, share my client-first mindset, and know exactly how to handle a wedding day. These aren’t just names on a list. They’re people I’d hire for my own wedding if I weren’t behind the camera. That’s how much I trust them.

Step Three: Second Shooters = Built-In Support
If your wedding package includes a second shooter, that person may already be the best backup plan of all. They’re familiar with your timeline, your vibe, and all the behind-the-scenes planning we’ve done together. In the rare case that I couldn’t be there, your second shooter may take the lead, and I’ll make sure they have everything they need to fully support your day, from extra help to full access to our notes and prep materials!

Step Four: Communication Comes First
If something ever happens, you’ll hear it from me directly as soon as possible. I believe in transparency, empathy, and staying in close communication every step of the way. You’ll know the situation, the next steps, and exactly how we’re moving forward. You won’t be left guessing. Ever!

Step Five: I Work With Your Vendor Team
Weddings are a team sport, and I’m lucky to work with some of the best vendors in the industry. From planners to videographers, I’ll coordinate with the rest of your team to make sure everything runs smoothly and that your backup photographer is seamlessly integrated into your day. We all have one goal: make sure you feel taken care of and completely supported from beginning to end.

Step Six: Your Memories Will Always Come First
Here’s the truth: your wedding photos are not just a job to me. They’re heirlooms, emotion-filled moments, and once-in-a-lifetime memories. No matter what happens, my #1 priority is making sure your story is captured with heart and intention by someone who gets it. If that’s not me, it’ll be someone I trust wholeheartedly. And your photos will still be beautiful, meaningful, and uniquely yours.
