So here is the rundown..
I know it can be quite daunting to pick out what to wear every day let alone your engagement photos. Hence I have put together some guidelines so you guys can look perfect while still making sure the images are focused on your guys’ love, not what you’re wearing. A bit of a disclaimer, even though I know a little bit about fashion, I still am dressed in the same kind of blue jeans and rotate through two t-shirts and pajamas so there is a good change you are more stylish than I am. This is just what I have found to work through trial and error from past shoots, they are only guidelines, not rules!
Ultimately I want you guys to look like yourselves and be comfortable in what you are wearing. Don’t feel like if you don’t follow these guidelines that your photos are going to be terrible. The most important thing here is that you guys feel and look like yourselves. A lot of couples go shopping for new clothes beforehand and there is nothing wrong with that as long as you don’t buy something that doesn’t represent you and it’s something you would not normally wear. Plus guys are usually not all that stoked about putting on a collared button up with dress shoes if they are used to wearing Flannel everyday. They will be way more happy to be at the shoot if you don’t force an outfit he doesn’t like. The last thing I want is you guys to feel weird because you are not sure if you like your new outfit.
Here are a few guidelines to help if you are feeling lost about what to wear:
First off, I always recommend bringing options. To get the best results, I will pull from the option you bring for you guys to change into for each location we shoot at. That way I can make sure the outfit compliments the environment and I can make sure the focus is on you two and your outfits are not causing any distraction and taking the attention away from you. All you have to do is make sure you bring stuff that you feel like a million bucks in that we can pick and pull from!
I advice you to bring about 3 to 4 pairs of bottoms and 4-5 tops and then you can bring dresses, accessories, jackets and what nots as well. Also, just know that depending on where we are shooting, you’ll most likely be changing in the back of the car on the side of the road. If you aren’t down with that, that’s totally fine and you can just bring one outfit! Just make sure to text me a few photos of the outfit options you have and we can pick it out together beforehand.
Make sure it makes sense.
Think about the conditions and locations we are going to be shooting in and plan around it. If we are going to be hiking around the mountains, bring shoes with good grip and you won’t twist your ankles in. If we are shooting on a sandy beach, it would look weird if you’re wearing shoes (ps. heels are almost always a bad idea in most scenarios, unless you’re freakishly good at walking in them haha). If it’s freezing cold outside, bring lots of layers and warm clothes with wool socks and boots. If it’s going to be hot, bring clothes that can breathe more so you don’t have sweaty pit stains in the photos. Be as comfortable as you can be! Try not to bring all of the outfits the same color and try to make sure both of y’alls outfits are also not the same color. Another good thing to remember is to make sure that your clothes don’t blend in with the surroundings of what we are going to be shooting in. For example: if we are going to be shooting in the woods with tons of greenery, try to avoid wearing green.
